We were required to
cover an event during the University Week and I have no idea what to choose.
The sports competition has all been done on Wednesday when I was in a tour with
my CMS 136 classmates. After checking my downloaded document of the U-Week
schedule, I decided to cover the Student Academic Lecture on Thursday, February
26 at 1:00 -3:00 in the afternoon. Honestly, at first I thought that it will be
a boring and sleepy 2-hour lecture with overloaded information.
However, when I arrived in MILC at exactly 1:00 pm, I was
shocked when I saw so many students inside. I can’t even enter the door thus there
are no more seats available. Many of the students sat on the floor and some
chose to stand beside the walls.
I was shocked when I found out that the four speakers are
also students from different division in CAS. These speakers are all known for
being jokers and humorous persons. Well, the excitement then started as the
first lecture was delivered by the representative coming from Clovers.

Jhon Robert Amistas,
coined himself as the dazzling red queen, a lover, and a mistress .He
talked about history specifically about Dr. Jose Rizal. His presentation was
full of pick-lines such as “Doctor ka ba, kasi gusto kong sabihin sayo ang
nararamdaman ko”. Added to it, he also stated why History is the sweetest GE
for him. Wanna know why? “Kasi history is full of dates” he said. Though there
are various jokes inserted during the presentation, Amistas enable to give well
researched information about Jose Rizal.

The second speaker was awarded as the Most Physically Fit
Human of 2013 and the Most Beautiful Person in 2014. He is Jose Maria Paolo
Santos that talked about Physical Education. What made his presentation lively
and somehow emotional was because of his intelligence to relate the different
components of physical fitness to love such as:
Balance:
“Wag mung ibigay lahat-lahat, magtira ka para sa sarili mo. Kung masakit na,
tama na”.
Body
Composition: “Pag nagmahal ka, wag puro puso, minsan
utak naman ang gamitin”.

And last but not the least is Alvin Maghopoy from
Skimmers who discovered that circles are pointless. According to him, he
graduated as Suma Cum Laude in UPV with the degree of BS Applied Math. His
presentation is in titled “Valuing your X’s: A F***toring Session”. He talked
about substitution of x’s and factoring which he accompanied with green jokes
that made the students laugh out loud.
That
Thursday afternoon was filled with laughter. I salute those four speakers for
their great talent that made the stressed UPV students to smile and laugh to
their hearts content.
